Mike Preble is on a distinguished road
Well, here in Tucson we are paying ~$3.00/gal. On the east side of town the gas comes from the east and on the west side of the town the gas is piped in from the west(California). There is a 5 cent difference and higher on the west side.
Last year when we lived in NC we spent ~$100/week. Now we are paying ~$30. How do we manage the difference? We ride our bikes alot. Even when it is 100 degrees outside we still ride. At some time in the near future we are going to need to reevaluate our consumption of natural resources. I still drive my cars but only when I need to, like to car shows.
At this time we are only faced with high prices. What is going to happen when we see mandatory rationing? I forsee jobs going away or gas costs being negotiated into salaries. Companies forced to relocate to warmer climates as cost of heating and commuting getting too expensive. Or the forced relocating of employees closer to factories. Who cares if you make more money if you don't have gas to put in your car?
40 years is the largest number of years I have heard at this time that we have before we deplete our supplies of fuel. There is no magic wand someone is going to wave and then there will be more fuel.
Time to get off my soap box. I would love to see gas prices go down. But in my best G. W. Bush voice I say "it ain't going to happen".
