OK...
Let me state that I do have a great selection of parts books from about 1968 (Kadett A and Rekord) to 1978 (Mainly 1900) and some going into the 1980s..
As a side note. In later books they would put the GT in its own special section. But Mantas, 1900 and Kadett were mixed together. This of course makes it easy to sort out the GT parts numbers.
I found the closer you get to the model year the more accurate the parts numbers (They changed parts numbers as parts went in and out of stock.. and as the reproduced out of stock parts.. etc.. etc.)
Opel Parts and Service HAD an AWESOME collection of parts books AND Price books that had all the updates over the years to parts numbers by hand.. Which would be invaluablen now. Tom and Tobbie over the years gave me a good education on thier use, thier quirks and such.. I only wish I had them.
Unfortunately they are currently buried in boxes at Opels Unlimited, because Todd never fully appreciated the value of them, no matter how much I explain it too him.. Which even Tom and Tobbie tried to do when he came and cleaned them out in the late 90s.
Anyway, that said, I will gladly loan these to anyone that wants to scan and post them here.
Although I have to say its a LOT Of work.. and a LOT of pages. Even if you hand picked things like just the books from 1964 (for Rekord), 1968 (for Kadett A), 1972 (Kadett B and Early GT), 1975 (Early Manta and late GT) and 1978 (For 1975 Ascona/Manta). Thats five books and about 200 pages a book easily.
As for why those books, I usually add a few years to the model years to pull the parts books. Mainly because books close to the model year are incomplete as not all parts are cataloged yet and after about 3-4 years they are also incomplete as they dropped parts. So there is a sweet spot for pulling parts numbers for different models and years.
I know over the years PDF projects were contemplated for the different service manuals and as I can tell they have never been completed. So, while I wouldn't mind loaning them to someone with the time and equipment to convert, I wouldnt want to lose them either. I have collected them over the last 15 years to get as complete a selection as possible.
If someone is willing to commit the time and effort and promise either the project gets completed OR I get my parts books back, I will gladly loan them. I just dont have the time to do the work myself.
The other option is to do what I mentioned. Send them to the Opel owner in need and have them ship them back once they are done. I have found the books invaluable over the years.. I wouldnt have half the parts I do for the Blue max and the Kadett wouldnt be done if it werent for the books.
So let me know what you all want to do..
Charles
