The pinion gear is attached to the pinion shaft and is supported by a tapered roller bearing at each end. The torque tube isn't going to affect it. What happens inside the rear end begins inside.
I've found the pinion bearings were loose on all three Opel diffs I've been into. I think that's where the trouble begins.
