Tried that, no go. The slider gate is then on the wrong side as is the hole for the spring.
The 71 and 72 gear shift levers are identical and both provide proper shifting in the 72, neither works in the 71.
Does the horizontal slide rod (into which the gear shifter is fitted) or the gear linkage have to be in a particular position when the shifter is installed? Is there any difference between the 71 and 72 transmissions? It seems so simple, but very frustrating!!
