As far as i now there hasn`t been a Ascona S. maybe a 16 S or 19 S.

The model sold in the us was runned as Opel Ascona in Germany. Due to there was a follow up modell it hits history as the Ascona "A". Depending on the engine its been called 16 or 19. The estate modell was called Ascona Voyage. all other opel estates are called caravan. The Manta was sold here as 1.6 (not 16!) and 1.9 (not 19!). they runned with "Benzin" 91 Octane (?) think you call it regular gas. the "S" versions i.e. the 1.6 S and 1.9 S needed Super-Benzin (95 octane?) think you call it "unleaded". They used to drive with leaded fuel which was finally forbidden in germany in the early 90s. we use a lead additive now to run them. due to the emission regulations opel just sold the 1900 engine in the us as far as i know. because it was the only engine (after certain modification) that could fullfill your emission regulations.

there has been a manta with a 1200 engine but wasn`t sold that much.

the manta in germany had little rays on each front wing, due to his name named after the manta ray. it was sold as manta (basic version), manta luxus (some chrome and options), the manta berlinetta (comparable to your luxus model) with certain upholstery, wooden interior pieces and a lot options and vinyl roof.

the "S", above all a red S, has just been on the manta models. never had seen one on an ascona.
