OK, so I'm being fecetious but the extra hole really is for a dipstick but not on your car. It is used if the oil pan reservior is in the front of the engine. I have never seen a front reservoir pan and don't know what car would take it but I was told they exist a long, long time ago.

In reality, most recently . . . believe front sump CIH pans were used on later, post-'75, front drive models . . .
