I have a 1980's vertical mill based CNC that has a Fanuc 6M-B controller on it. Like you said it's a great controller.
Still making parts with the machine.
I have 6 different older controllers to program and work with, 4 mills and 2 lathes. Gets to be a pain remembering all the little differences!
Going to make RallyBob some parts this week on the Haas.
