I bench tested the speedometer and it works fine and the cable is connected properly to the back of the speedo housing and also to the automatic transmission. I cannot get any indication on the speedometer while driving.

the gear in the trans is basically palstic, could the center hole on it be worn? It's supposed to be a square hole to match the end of the speedo cable.
