Unanswered: Burnt wires

I just bought a '73 GT and was told the engine ran. Well the wires are burnt from the coil to the harness, regulator to the alt, coil wire, some of the plug wires and the ignition is not working.

I can jump the starter and it turns but with all the fired wires I'm not sure what is working and not. Not juice to the spark plugs.

I have pulled all the wires apart and the fusible links saved the harness.

My question is how do I test the coil and the regulator and where can I go to get the connector plugs replaced? They are melted a little.

Will start splicing in new wire and replacing the fusible links but the connectors and sub assemblies I need to test.

BTW, I found couple bare wires on the center console for starting the car.
Confirms that the ignition is shot. Don't have keys, trying to get the ignition lock out, got the steering wheel apart but can not get the lock to budge.

Thanks for your help.

Greg, you'll probably be better off getting a new coil and regulator. Opel Gt Source might have the regulater. http://www.opelgtsource.com/shop.cgi?page=home.htm I'd also try to find out why it melted down. There has to be a major short somewhere. Not a whole lot of help, I know, but a place to start. Jarrell
