Unanswered: Starter keeps turning over after turning key off

I am trying to get the wiring hooked up to start the car. We found a loose connection that we soldered and now have dash lights when the key is turned on, but when I push the button to start the car the starter keeps turning when I turn the key off. Any thoughts of why?

The PO has a push button switch wired in and a maze of wires under the dash some that are not hooked to anything. I know I have to trace and mark all of these wires to figure out what they are, just wanted to know what to look for in fixing the above circuit.

Regulator, bad push button, loose wire, wired wrong?

Any thoughts would be welcome!

It sounds like your starter solenoid has somehow been wired to both the start and the run circuits in the ignition switch, so that as it starts and you release the button, the solenoid is still getting power and continuing to operate the starter.
You may want to remove the PO-installed switch and re-install it with the help of a wiring diagram or better yet, get rid of the old switch and install a remote solenoid to operate the starter, such as the Ottostart kit offered on this site.
Good Luck!
