Unanswered: Lightweight batteries

I need to replace a few batteries in my Opels and recall seeing a small, light weight battery at a car show a couple years ago. The entire case was orange. Any ideas what the brand is? Are there any concerns in these batteries? I do run A/C on my Opels.

I *think* you are refering to an Odyssey battery. Some of those race-type batteries are not street friendly, they don't take to multiple dischargings too well. Once over-drained they are often no good.

I like the Westco 'Miata' battery. Small, relatively cheap, common, has enough CCA for street use, and weighs about 25 lbs. Most Opel-sized batteries are 38-42 lbs.

Look for a battery for a Miata. The stock replacement should be what they call an AGM battery, which is very comparable to an Optima or Oddesy in that it is completely sealed and not normally vented, but the battery is really designed for daily use in a car and is pretty darn small.

I've also went the miata route and relocated the battery to a better location.
All the battery does is crank the engine. The alternator handles the running load.
