Answered: AMP Gauge Short Out?

I recently posted a thread about my battery not charging. Come to find out I didn't have a ground wire from the alternator to the block. After resolving that issue. I noticed that my battery was still not charging. Well, it was charging but not at the same time.

I replaced the voltage regulator and that did not resolve the issue. So I did a voltage test at the battery and at 2k RPM I was only getting a .5 voltage gain as opposed to idle at 900 rpm. So, I did a voltage test at the alternator and got a 1.7 voltage gain and realized that my alternator was charging like it was suppose to.

I started doing voltage tests on the wires. Starting at the alt, then the alt to fuse block, then the fuse block to the amp gauge, then the gauge to the other side of the fuse block and this is where I noticed the drop in voltage. After the AMP gauge is where the drop occurs.

Is it possible the AMP gauge not allowing the current to pass through or do I need to do something with the wiring?

Thanks

It is quite possible that the amp gauge has a resistance to it which prevents efficient charging of the battery. You did all of the complicated tests. The easiest way to test the lamens way, would be to simply remove one of the wires from one terminal on the gauge and put it with the other wire on the opposite terminal. The gauge will no longer work, but you could then test the voltage gain at the battery and see if it is close to what you see at the alternator. It *should* be the same if everything you stated is true.
