It Depends ....
The early 2.0 Manta distributors have a normal advance mechaniz inside them and only need the Bosch ignition amplifier and stand alone wiring loom to operate them.
The later ones without the advance weights inside them have electronically controlled advance and require an ECU plus speed sensors and engine sensors etc. etc. So look inside your distributor, hold the gear and try to move the rotor - if it has advance it will move and snap back - good! If the rotor is firmly attached to the shaft and will not move either way then it needs a computer to vary the advance. It looks just the same from the outside though .... Here is a pic of all the wiring and bits needed.

So if I want to use the pointless ignition thats on the 2.2 E, I will have to use some of the electronic components from the FI unit???

Depends ...
Does your 2.2 distributor have the advance weights in it or not?
If not you cannot just use part of the ECU - have to use complete system ... including fuel injection or it will just shut down with errors because it senses that something is not there .. the fuel injection system. You may be able to use an aftermarket ignition system but that is a whole new (expensive!) thing. Cheaper to just upgrade an old points type distributor with a Pertronix Kit ......

The distributor doesn't have the advance weights when I turn the rotor it doesn't budge.
Ok, now I'll have to see if can get something that will do the job, and start saving some money to buy it, may be look in a junk yard for it. Thanks GT Jim for the info!!!!

I tried the electronic ignition distributor from the 2.2 FI on my 2.0 carb engine today, and the car runs on it but because the advance weights are not in the distributor I can't rev further than 2500 - 3000 RPM, than the engine starts to sputter.
I bought a electronic ignition distributor [for a 2.0 Manta B] a few weeks back but the ignition amplifier [it's not an amplifier but a module that gives a block formed voltage to the coil ] was not with it. After thinking about it for a while and reading some stuff on other forums, I came to the conclusion that the gizmo [read hall sensor] in the distributor is a electronic version of the breaker points, already having a transistor ignition in my car, I connected the hall sensor to the +12 Volt & ground and connected the third wire to my transistor ignition, and started the engine, and after some adjusting the engine idled, not to bad but not to good either. I'm going to swap the old distributor back in, take the distributor, I bought, apart and clean it and try it. If this works with the transistor ignition, what I know will do the trick, than I'll have a cheap replacement for the Bosch or Siemens ignition module!!!!!!! ![]() Keep you posted

I tried the 2.0 distributor it worked, but I think I ruined the springs when I was putting the thing back together
, going to look for some other ones to repair the 2.0 distributor
