Unanswered: Distributor advance
Does anyone know where I can have the distributor recurved, or is it possible to use the weights and springs out of the FI distributor? |

Advance ..
With your low CR of 8.7 there is something more than ignition advance wrong to get detonation ....
What Octane gas are you running 87RON or 91RON ? Here is a good thread about 're-curving' distributors: http://www.opelgt.com/forums/1b-igni...ibutor+springs Though "curve" is a bit of a misnomer as the advance under control of the springs and counter weights in a conventional points distributor is closer to a straight line. 800 rpm is a bit low for advance to start - so check out if your springs are under tension when static. Loose, light springs may need replacing with a pair of stronger springs with the mounting post bent to ensure they are under slight tension at rest. See id you can find an "Old" Motor Engineer, Hot Rodder or Circle Track racer near you with access to a distributor machine ... and the knowledge to use it!
