What's the code?

Many 1969 lock cylinders snap, when they are forced out.
The correct removal process. is to turn them with a key
and lightly press the retainer "button."

Lock cylinder types are identified by an imprinted code:

Does yours start with "AA" (rare), "BB" (less rare)
or "CC" (most common).

Also, does your lock cylinder sleeve have a "groove"
on its inside? (<ost 1969's don't, but it could have been
swapped from a later model GT).

You also need to match the style of the cylinder you get,
to the sleeve you have (or a sleeve you can get, as a replacement)

What about the groove?

In order to receive the correct part, you need to
read, think, and communicate more clearly.

The question is:

Which type of "sleeve" the lock cylinder
goes into, do you need a lock cylinder to match to?

(1) Is it a sleeve WITH a groove
(meaning, you need a 1970-1971 "BB" code
lock cylinder)?

(2) Or is it a sleeve WITHOUT a groove
(meaning, you need a 1969 "BB" Code
lock cylinder)?

Not knowing this, may mean you'll buy
another lock cylinder, that may not fit.

In other words, are you trying to repair the
1969 steering column on the car you have, or the
(apparently) later-style column you bought to replace it?

the sleeve has a groove.
my 69's steering column was badly messed up by previous owners.
sorry for all these questions and me not giving enough info on my things i'm talking about but by sleeve your meaning the actual housing the lock and cylinder goes into?

so i bought the new one which i'm guessing now is a 1970-71 steering column now i need a cylinder and a new lock for the new steering colomn because when i bought it the column did not have one, it was missing but i knew that before i bought the steering column...i figured it was going to be a quick fix, just put my lock cyinder and lock on the new column and it's done....NOT

here's my previous steering column...

Now that the part is identified

You need to either contact Opel parts sellers, or place a "want ad" on this board, for a 1970-1971 "BB" Code Lock Cylinder with matching key (side groove style) for a GT.

My guess, is this will cost you $50. or more, unless you get lucky and someone has a spare they won't use.

Get a Matching Door Lock too

Try to get a set of door locks, that match the ignition key too. This makes it much easier to get in and start the car, without having to fumble around for an alternate key.
