Unanswered: Ignition Switch Puzzle

I pulled out the ignition switch on my Opel GT this morning in order to rebuild it. It went easier than I thought. What puzzled me is a grey wire that came out loose (see the picture).
Service manual is not clear and even wiring diagram does not help.
What is this wire for? Where was it hooked?
Thanks.

IIRC that would be for the key buzzer. It's a reminder for if you leave your key in the ignition and open the door.

Only used on the later model GT's.

Harold's got it right. There may be a tab on the key cylinder where the wire is soldered. It makes a ground connection, so that when the left door jam switch completes the circuit, with the door open, the buzzer goes off.

Thanks for help. I just opened the ignition switch. Broken! Now I know what was wrong.
Anybody has an ignition switch, even with burned contacts? My contacts are good, I might be able to make one good switch out of two.

Any shop teachers in this group with a small mill that could make some repair parts for our switches as this part is commonly broken? I spoke with a Diversified Tech teacher once about doing it but no longer have that connection.

Well that part could probably be repaired by brazing.
