Unanswered: 75 FI Distributor In Stock 2.0E?
I was wondering what, if any, advantage there is installing it into my 2.0E? It currently is a bone stock 2.0 with a 38 DGAS (on a slightly ported intake) and a stock size GT exhaust (yes, I know, must go bigger, but it hasn't happened...yet). I know I need the distributor for the Manta (big valves, big cam, SSD, etc.), but was wondering about swapping out the 7? distributor in the 2.0.

. . . limited to 25° mechanical (centrifugal) advance and has -6° vacuum retard only for anti-pollution at idle!
All the other US Opel distis have ~10° more mech advance and have both vacuum advance and retard in addition to that . . .

Even though I know the specs on the 75 and the reasons for using it in a modified motor, I wasn't sure what advantages or disadvantages there are to using it in a carbed, nearly stock motor. Or is it more suitable to the euro 2.0 than a US spec distributor? It seems obvious to me that it would be better in a 2.0E that still had it's fuel injection than a pre-75 US distributor, but what if it's got a carb? What did Opel use in it's post-74 non-US carbed applications?
I have the distributor in the car now. Running just under 10* initial advance with retard disconnected (mind you, this is on a 2.0E with the slightly different pointer. Timing set using screw head in pointer, not the pointer itself, this is according to info from when I got the motor. The pointer in the 2.0 is supposedly 5* retarded when using the US flywheel). The car feels a little softer under acceleration, but I need more driving time to compare. I also need to check the number on the old distributor to get the specs on it.

I like the '75 disti best of all the ones available on US Opels. Use them in most of my "performance" engines and similar to yours, no vac retard connected or blocked off.
I'm, admittedly, "old school" and like optimizing engine ignition by fiddling with initial advance and changing disti curve with different spring sets. This disti is closest to my old Chevy SB distis . . . there's a certain level of comfort knowing what's worked in the past and applying it elsewhere.

I know what you mean about 'old school'! I like playing with the old performance parts, one because they can be generally had pretty cheap (compared to say....a Ford EDIS retrofitted to a 40 year old euro GM!), two...I'm still learning, and it's good to start with the basics. Then again, I do have an old CD ignition that looks 60s-70s that I found somwhere. Don't remember off hand what brand, maybe I'll dig it out and take a pic.
The distributor I was using is marked 0 231 176 012. It has a Pertronix and is stock (unless someone swappeed out innards at some point before I got it).
