Unanswered: advance curve mod
have been doing little projects that have been needing to get done. Friday I took the dizzy apart, riveted the points plate and replaced the springs on the weights. I am amazed! What is maybe equal to the weight of a couple of tylenol tablets could make such a difference! Course can't do any kind of road test just yet but sitting in the drive and revving up can say a lot. Now I wait for my compu-fire. (oh yeah, and my seats.) |

Hello Dan,
I have no way of actually checking the advance other than to say a tad beyond 0*, (maybe 5* BTDC) with full advance experienced at about 4K rpm, full advance being about 30* total. Again, I don't have a timing light that I'm able to dial in, I'm just going by the marks on the crank pulley. Don. |

Remember, the teeth on the flywheel can be used as the biggest, most accurate timing marks possible. They have to be read from underneath, though.
You really DO want to know what your full advance is, and at what RPM it gets there.

Yeah, I even marked the flywheel when I was getting
the valve timing set up. I gave some thought to going as far as lifting and looking but remember the trouble I had getting the dust cover off. That was the biggest problem encountered. Once the compufire system is installed I'll probably climb underneath and dial it all in. Don. |
