Unanswered: What a Nightmare - Electrical Bugs

Hey All

Have my first problem, and i cant seem to work it out....looking for some help.
Have a 72GT and trying to finish putting the interior back in, but several electrical problems.
1. No Brake lights with pedal depressed
2. Park lights on - left brake light on...right tail light okay.
3. No front signal lights at all - Is there supposed to be?
4.Push button starter (p/o installed) seems to work okay, but will turn starter over even without electrical switched on.
5. No Hazard lights at at all.
Have the full wiring diagram and still in the process of tracing everything, cut the B/y wire to hazards and grounded it. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks very much

Mike

#4 can be fixed quite easily, one side of the button goes to the starter, the other right now will be going to a constant +12V source, but it should be going to an ignition switched source. to find one grab either a test light or a voltmeter and find a wire that gets power when the key in is the "on" position.

as for the others, i would suspect bad grounds or corroded contacts first, find out which grounds belong to the circuit that isn't working properly, take that ground off, sand it and where it contacts the body, then put it back and test, do the same with the spade connectors on the lights. if it still doesn't work i would suspect bad switches. and for the brake light on with the parking lights, i would guess that if you or a PO had been trying to repair the electrical system, it was connected wrong.

Mike

i'm not sure on this, but i think it depends on the year, the early ones work as signals and the later is just parking lights. i might be wrong, but i know they work as signals on my '69

edit: are you talking about the curved lights beside the headlights or the ones under the bumper?

They're not fog lights, at least not in stock form (Not on US models at least). They're parking lights but also double as turn indicators.

The curved ones are only parking lights...in stock form.

Well that explains one of my bugs then...thanks kyle...but ive added round clear driving lights into that housing...maybe i should ground the old brown wires to the frame, that may help.
Thanks again for your reply.
