Unanswered: '73 GT turn signal on but not blinking if turn switch is on and ignotion off

I have a 73 GT. I just noticed that the turn signals stay on continuously if I leave the turn lever on left or right and turn the key off. i.e. If the lever is left and the key is off, the outside front and rear left turn lamp is on. Same for the right. Seems like a good way to run down the battery. Just wondering if anyone else has that problem.

I can confirm that it is a *great* way to run down your battery! Never realized that there was actually an intended reason for this feature. I always assumed it was an electrical quirk in my dash.

It's a German Thing!

My '91 Senator does the same thing - leave the indicator switched on and the park lights remain going on one side when parked.
It is a requirement in Germany.

You do see lots of people in Germany parking with the turn signal on. In Paris I noticed lots of people did the same thing when parking on the sidewalk. Parking being hard to find, I guess they figure they can park on the sidewalk as long as they have the turn signal on.

its the law in a lot of Europe to have parking lights on at night when parked on the road side
England had this law in some counties and not in others

it can be stopped by pulling the appropriate wire at the fuse box and taping it. i believe they are at fuse 2 and fuse 3 for the left and right lights..just make sure you leave the regular blinker wires attached!http://www.opelgt.com/forums/images/.../veryhappy.gif
