If the light goes on and off with the trannie in and out of reverse. the switch is OK. Sounds like the problem is where the source is connected. Now you know why it was disconnected!

The backup light is a very simple circuit. The switch is the normally open type, which closes when the gearshift lever is in the reverse position. It should be connected at the fuse panel to fuse #7 (far left side) which is a switched fuse. It's highly possible the PO plugged the wire into one of the un-switched fuses. The BU light wire at the fuse panel should be an 18 AWG solid purple wire.
