After Market CHMSL (Center High Mount Stop Lamp)

I have searched this site and currently using goggle to find sources for a CHMSL that can be mounted to the inside of the backlite glass just above the package tray using double sided black tape. Still researching, but was wondering, have any members installed an aftermarket CHMSL on their Opel GT? If yes, any recommendations? Prefer an LED type.

I don't know about aftermarket kits. I used one from a Lincoln Mark VII that turned out very nice. I screwed mine into the shelf below the rear window which was easy since the rear glass was out. I guess you could make a plate under the light and double stick tape to it. But you will need to ground the light frame and use a rear stop light wire to make it work. You can pick one up at a wrecking yard for maybe $5. Jerry

There was a project by JJ a few years back to put LED strip in the rear vents, I don't know he has any left.

It's the same on the Cougars and Thunderbirds. It was really difficult to remove on the Thunderbird, I'm sure it's the same on the Mark, but the Cougar has a more upright rear window. There was definately some re-engineering that needs to go on with that unit. Also, the factory used too powerful of bulbs in those units, they get too hot and warp the housing, burn the wires, and the bulbs burn out or break.
Needs a 2dr Ascona, everyone else has one.

    CHMSL 3rd Brake Lamp Light

I always forget proper CHMSL description and use 3rd brake light for SEARCH.
Some Searches work better with lamp or light.
    www.jcwhitney.com
    20-led Third Brake Light ZX123032W Each $14.99
On the larger JC Whitney picture, appears that glass angle is more vertical compared to slant of GT rear glass.

    Glass-mount Light ZX126698A Each $10.99
This looks like better glass angle for GT, but appears to be bulb instead of LED.

Installation of DESTEC LED Lamp that mounts in rear window vent of GT is slightly involved: Requires drilling hole through GT roof support when headliner is removed. Wires need to be fished under headlinner, etc.

On my list of projects to accomplish ... Someday!
