Unanswered: Fog/Blinker housings bolts?

I'm putting the front blinker (US, Fog/Europe) cans back on my car (PO removed). I'm having trouble with the bolts that go into the blind nuts in the floor of the headlight holes. There were a few bolts laying in the cans but they don't thread in, too tight. Got both M4 .7 pitch and .8 (I think I have that straight) one is too tight other too loose. Anyone know what these are supposed to be? I could smash off the blind nuts and use normal nuts since they are accessible enough but that ain't right. Are these "weird" bolts? My hardware store has a pretty decent selection of metric stuff.

PO had unplugged the running light from the side banana lights, left it lay and run the blinker wire up there. I'm reversing this back to what I think is normal; front cans are blinkers, side lights are parking/running lights.

The are M4 x .7, get yourself a set of taps so you can clean the threads out, probably just rust.

check off another from the to-do list

I ended up popping out the blind nut holders, come to find out they're just clipped in. One had a busted off bolt stuck in it anyway. Used regular nuts and bolts with lock washers. Got blinkers and running lights working as Opel intended (at least on this side of the pond).
What a good feeling to put something "back to rights" so to speak.

Now for the backup light. That housing was off when I got the car, put it back on, found the wire (no ground? just grounded through chassis?) while redoing tank vent lines, hooked it up but it doesn't work, probably on the switch side, wherever that little bugger is hiding on the tranny. Come to think of it, I didn't check the bulb.....

Check for 12V with the car in reverse on the wire to a good ground. The fixture itself goes bad, just like everything else in the car, due to corrosion.

Come to think of it, that is a very unique bulb, one of the early halogen types, it has the same appearance as the fuses, just a bit larger. It is held in place by the ends, so only the pressure of the contact clips make contact. Check those for corrosion also, as well as the screws that attach the base plate to the body. HTH.

no juice, jacked up car, crawled down there, found the switch, for the record, it is a little box thing with two wires. One end is held on with a rivet the other is small slot head screw going through a slotted hole to allow some pivot, I guess you swing the switch so the linkage with hit it when you put the stick into reverse. Mine was totally loose. I swung it up close to the linkage and tightened up the screw. She lights up

Can I put this as a new thread with the proper title so the next guy can find it? I will.

PS I tacked this post onto the end of a backup light thread--this is 1970 4 speed, apparently after 1970 the backup light switched to a cylinder style and a different location on the tranny......
