I haven't converted my GT lights yet, but I am running halogens for 2 years now and 25k miles in my 1973 BMW 2002 (same weak electrical system), and it's working great, much brighter with the 55/65 watts. Using the 100W lights will most likely cause problems without a relay.

Me too, been running the replacement halogens in both my cars for years with no problems. And on the Opel that was with the original alternator, until I did the engine swap.
