Unanswered: Hazard Switch

Need a little help with this switch. I have the JJ diagram, but with all the side notes and such for this switch, I am lost.
I have gotten all the lights but the turn signals, reverse, and high beam. I think my turn signals have to do with this switch. When I turn on the left signal with the car and ignition switch off, all the left markers come on, and same for the right. By reading these forums this seams right. But with the ignition on and car not running, I am getting nothing. My 73 GT has the seat belt light and hazard switch. This was taken out, and I cant figure out where the wires go. If somoeone has one or knows that would be great. Thanks.2.jpg

Why are you keeping the ignition on without the car running? That's not recommended for the ignition system. Do the turn signals work when the car is running?

Didn't try. I still need to rebuild the carb, so I don't usally start it. Does it need to be running for the turn signals to work?

You are correct, the ingnition switch needs to be in the "on" position for the turn signals to work.

If you check the turn signals with just the key on, don't be surprised if you get the infamous double light flash in the indicator panel. A low voltage condition will cause this, but it will cure itself with the engine running and charging the system, usually.

Yes... I've had this happen on occation... The way I prevent the double flash with the engine off is to hook up a battery charger. This way having the head lights or other electrical items I might have turned on while trouble shooting, won't drain the battery...

Thank yall for the help, but still need a little more help. I am looking to see how to wire the hazaed / seat belt switch. The JJ diagram did not help on this part. Also, sound weird, but how do you trun on the brights? I would think you do it by pulling back on the turn signal lever, but I dont feel a click or see a difrance. Thanks

The hazard light/seat belt switch is hard for me to understand, let alone wire it up correctly. You have J.J.'s schematic, so following the wires should be simple. The seat belt light gets a ground trough each of the seat belts via a Brown/White wire, that also goes to a pressure switch in the passemger seat, altho0ugh I've never seen the pressure switch. The light gets 12VDC from the Black wire at The inlet side of fuse #6. Once the grounds are broken, either by fastening the belts aong with someone sitting in the passenger seat the light should go out. As for the Dimmer relay not working, I would check the green wire at the relay for a ground when the turn signal stalk is pulled back, if there is no ground, check the wire again at the White steering column connector Pin #1. If ther is still no ground when the stalk is puilled back, I would start looking for the Brown wire that is supposed to be at one of the 4 bolts holding the steering column to the instrument panel, ?That is the main ground for the switchesd in the steering column. You momentarily could also jumper a ground wire to the Green wire connection on the hi-lo relay to see if the relay is good. Che4ck out the wiring connections on the relay using J.J.'s schematic and you see how it works. Should be self explanatory.
