Unanswered: no dimmer

Hey guys, I have a 70 model gt, I am pretty sure the dimmer switch is the turn signal. I can pull it towards me, but there is no (click) nor does the lights change from bright to dim. And I think the one on the pass. side is dim. any ideas? thanks Joe

If the relay is bad, there's no click

The dimmer might have been bypassed or it might be a bad relay.
I'm thinking of designing a solid state relay system for Opel GTs. I'm sure there would be a few buyers. ~L

If you ever take a headlight dimmer relay apart, you would be surprised that it works at all.

Dimmer relay is under dash behind the fuse panel, but it sounds more like the signal switch is not working properly.
And the dim light if just the one side is dim you have harness issues somewhere between the factory splice (by master cylinder) to the actual headlight wiring on the lamp socket. It could be a ground but unlikely since both use the same ground lug also by the master Cylinder but wires share the same wire harness.

Probably an improvement if you do.

Hmm, simple design and they served the automotive industry well for years. I'll bet most of the Opels in the U.S. are still using these archaic things along with the old mechanic voltage regulators.

My 70 GT does the same thing. No click when you hit the turn signal stalk. The relay is good; I can either have high beams all the time or low beams by manually disconnecting it. From what I've been told, there is no dimmer switch in the column, it's all in the ignition switch. Is this correct?

Actually, there is a dimmer switch/turn signal, but, it all comes as one assembly with the ignition. I'll post a picture tonight.

Here's the dimmer switch for a GT, this one is brand new. You have to remove the ignition switch to get this unit on/off
