Unanswered: Help! Need more pictures

Looks like the short in the electrical on Quazar (73GT) has re-surfaced. I am trying to trace the wires and am having a lot of trouble with being able to see what is on them, they are so small, and all seem to be different. A show thread of the speedo wiring : http://www.opelgt.com/forums/attachm...6&d=1072905220
Shows the brown ground wires on the speedo, but does anyone know if there are more pictures for the rest of the dash dials and the fuse box? Some don't show the detail this pic shows......One more question: In my 73GT there is no red fuse in the back part, behind the seven fuses of the fuse box, the one thats so hard to find. Is it suppost to be there like the one on the 69 fuse box, or did they eleminate it in the later years? If anyone know who posted this great pic of the wiring.........please post more, they are great!

If you mean the fuse that stands vertically, all by itself at the rear of the fusebox, and is part of a relay, it is the fuse for the rear defroster. If the car has no rear defrost it will not have this fuse or relay. Also if you go to the tech links / wiring diagrams section on this site there are several full schematics listed. The one I posted is a full color pdf although it shows up as a multimedia file.

Thanks! that answers why mine has no fuse then. did destec post that show thread above? Does anyone know? The electrical chart above is so superior to any of the others I have seen.

I have never seen a Destec diagram, but I would not doubt that is what it is, because it is so clear. If you open the one that I mention above it is not too bad.

It's a scanned color wiring diagram for a 73 on a CD with the original version of the scanned in 73 manual in PDF format.

Liz, et. al., That is a scanned portion of my DESTEC schematic. If you need a specific area I can do that. I believe JJ has one of his latest ones on e-bay right now, at least it was there yesterday. Or send him an e-mail and he can get one out to you for a reasonable fee. HTH.

Sorry folks, gotta play the heavy on this one. JJ put a lot of work into redrawing the GT schematic in AutoCad. He is still actively selling them. So we cannot allow scans to be posted without his permission.

EBay

Liz, There is a complete 1970 Dash harness on EBay at the moment.
There is only one Dash harness listed in the Opel parts book: 69-73 All GT 1280473 Harness, inst wiring - so I can only guess that they are all the same and any diffferences in dash wiring are add ons not part of the basic harness.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Opel-...QQcmdZViewItem

BTW: JJ Wheatly's schematic is worth every cent of the $30 he asks because there is over 4,000 hours of his experience with GT electical circuits in it - that is why it is copyright and Gary has, very correctly, stopped the uploading of 'boot-leg' scans of it. The bit you saw in the link you posted is from one of JJ's schematics so you can see how good it is.
You should be able to go to the membership list and find "Destec" and email him about getting a copy of it - the latest updated Version "L"

HTH

Gary, Baz, I appreciate your thoughts on this. And if JJ is watching, sorry if I violated your copyright on this. My thoughts on this are two-fold, first, trying to help out an Opeler with a problem, second to give them a teaser about how good JJ's schematics are. Each of the scans I did, and I think there were 2-3, I was very explicite about giving credit to JJ and highly recommended they contact him and get one for themselves. So if I stepped on toes here, I'm very sorry. It won't happen again, at least by me. JJ and I are on fair good terms, so much so, that he sent me his latest signature series schematic. Now I have two. One prominatley displayed on the refrigerator door in the garage and one next to this comp in the house, just so I can do some long distance electrical trouble shooting for folks.

Baz I would love that! I have left a PM and an e-mail for destac, but no replies from him yet. I need to be able to see the wires on the chart or photo, (senior moment I think) And I have no problem with buying one from him, I think the 30$ is a very worthwhile price. Oh btw: Lisa's s heart surgery was a success! And today Kats Wisdom teeth removal went well also.

Thanks Baz! That will give me something to do while I'm here with the girls, and their recovery time. Oh I did just get a PM from Destec too. Thank You Destec! Your check is in the mail. Best 31$ I have ever spent. Looks like a lot of serious time went into the schematic.

I'll take a look. I am not sure where the short is coming from just yet, but so far have found some things on the dash that improperly grounded, and the fuse box seems to be in serious trouble, so many splices in. I will trace everything and take it all back to original! 17 years is a little too long for this problem to be here.

An update here: I put a check for $31 to Destec in the mail. Thank You Destec! Baz if you take pics for me thats great! I need all the help I can get. Part of the confussion is the lack of where the grounding wires on the other charts go, and a pic of the fuse box would help too. Namba was right, the whole reason for this thread was to find out who made that superior schematic! When I saw that pic I said wow I have to have one!
