Unanswered: Temp Gauge

Hi,

Last night I took my GT for a ride and noticed that the temp gauge is Fluctuating by up to 2 lines. It will go up and then go back to normal temp range. I checked the contacts on the sender and cleaned them but it still fluctuates. Does anyone have any idea what would cause this????

Thanks
Tom

does this happen when u are under heavy accelerating or drive at over 85 mph for an extended time, mine does this when i am going up steep hills doing 60 or when im doing 85 or higher on the freeway for an extended time it usually starts cooling off a little more around 95 though but as soon as u drop back down to about 65 70 it goes back to regular temperature.

It does it all the time. If I am going up hill, down hill or just driving. Even does it while idling. Any ideas??????

I second the response. Check coolant level. Replace thermostat and gasket (simple task).

While you're at it, put in an overflow bottle. This will allow your car to not lose coolant when it heats up and expands. When the car cools off - the coolant will be sucked back into the radiator. This not only gives max cooling ability, but also the best protection from corosion inside your radiator. I know this is elementary, but effective!

. . . make sure that you have a proper radiator cap with your overflow bottle, i.e. one that has a seal at the top . . . older type caps don't! . . . they let coolant flow out overflow tube but have no provision for "sucking" it back in when coolant cools!
