Unanswered: Monza (Royale?) Display

My partners brother has a monza, when he switches the headlights on, the lights on the display go out make it impossible to read the gauges (lcd I think) any ideas as to the problem & solution would be welcome.

Sounds like a ground (earth) issue to me. Anyone else want to chime in?

Rap!

A quick rap on the top of the dash pad, with the flat of your hand, often works to 'jar' the LCD display back to life. Don't be too brutal with it though as they are delicate and quite expensive/hard to find replacements for.
They are well known (amoung Monza owners!) for this "feature"
Both my Monzas have the much nicer Analogue displays ... with real moving needles.

"Hit the top of the dash" was my first suggestion to him, this has no effect. Is there a relay or something to dim the panel lights when the headlights are switched on? All the other electrics seem to be ok so is there a separate ground for the panel?

Check the ground for the lights themselves. That ought to be easy enough to find and see if that helps.
