Unanswered: Automatic GT Wiring
I'm converting a stick GT into an automatic. I now need to hook-up the shift lever's wiring harness and need some help with what goes where. I'm going to assume that most of the wires are for ignition lock-out. A couple are for the light bulbs and another pair for the back-up light. My last auto GT must've had the lock-out wires disconnected and I found it rather useful not having to put'er in park or neutral when I'd stall at a light. So I don't mind not hooking those up. Which wires are for back-up and the two bulbs? Which wire(s) supply power and ground? Can I just NOT plug the lock-out wires to anything and tape them off?

As for the lockout, its easy if you don't want to hook them up, don't. If you want to hook them up, they are a N.O. switch that closes when the shifter is moved into P or N. The wire that would go to that one is from the ignition switch. It would be the one from the "start" position on the ignition switch. That wire would need to be extended to the shifter switch so that the circuit would be complete when the shifter was in P or N. As for the reverse switch. It should be easy enough to figure which wires these are in the shifter harness. Connect those to the reverse switch wires on the manual tranny. those wires are white/black and purple. They might be color coded on the auto trans harness. The light bulb lights should be easy enough to figure out. Just look for the color of wire on the bulb sockets. Tie those in with the dash lamp wires. There might even be an extra dash light wire taped up behind your bezel. HTH

The lights for the PRNDSL section are gray. Make sure you are grounded with a brown wire or it won't light up.
