Answered: Oil pressure gauge

Took the GT on a 250 mile trip yesterday ran fine but on the way home it was getting dark and started to rain. I turned on running lights and oil pressure gauge went from 2 -2 1/2 down to 1 or below when i stopped at a light, if i turned on wipers or turn signal it would drop even more to the point that the light would come on for an instant. When i accelerate pressure reads 2 or above again. any body else have this happen?

Check fuses, electrical connections under dash both positive and ground and check for ground strap from alternator to block. Don't forget to check alt. belt. You have incurred a greater drain on the electrical system than it can handle because of a poor connection(s) somewhere. It may be as simple as cleaning where the fuses come in contact with the holders, even just twisting the fuses may improve the situation.

I second Harold, this is an electrical (ground) problem, not an oil pressure problem.

thanks for the replies. Thought that might be the problem but didn't find any posts with this particular problem and didn't want to do any damage to rebuilt motor.

I just looked at all 3 of those threads and all had to do with pegging oil pressure guage or ammeter, NOT a reduction of OP when turning on Acc. I searched Oil pressure guage, and Guages didnt find anything.
