Unanswered: GT Fuel Tank Sender Wire

I attempted to clean the sending unit as it was reading empty and the wire was broken and the small “wire guides” with the float are less than sturdy so I searched for a replacement sending unit and OGTS sells them for $120 ; seems a bit pricy. I see from other string these can be rebuilt but I can seem to find the wire…assuming that is the only issue. Have you ever used one of those VDO universal sending units for $30?
I appreciate all you help. Thanks

RSD, if you feel your sender actually is rebuildable (...the small “wire guides” with the float are less than sturdy...) I may be able to help you. I believe I may have an extra length of new resistance wire leftover from when I rebuilt mine. I can check my parts stash later tonight.

Brian- I think I am going to have to rebuild. I appreciate your offer. Please let me know if you can unearth the wire. The rebuilt does not appear to be difficult except for the condition of the copper guides in the float. Let me know. Thanks again

RSD, sorry, but I didn't get a chance to look for the resistor wire last night and I won't have a chance tonight either. But I'm taking Friday afternoon off and will also be home all weekend, so I'm sure I'll be able to hunt it down then. I hope this slight delay delay doesn't cause a problem for you. I'm about 95% certain I have enough new wire left for one more sender rebuild.

Hey RSD, I found it! Send me a private message with your mail address and I'll get it in the mail.

Unfortunately, this is my last piece of it. If anyone else needs a source for the resistance wire in the future, I got mine from Hyndman Industrial Products in Fort Wayne, In.

Part Number: 40N8SP1
Size: .0031"
Resistance: 66.78 ohms/foot
