Unanswered: Paint Color Question

Hey everyone, I hope that I put this in the correct forum.
I need some of our die-hard fellow opelers to help me with some hard-core research!
There is a rumor about my opel....
Know some of you know I have a 1969 opel GT 1.1 4 speed
all origonal 1 of 342
Ok. we know that much
But, My boss kind of got interested in researching about the car a little bit, hes not an opel fan but he thinks its interesting.
So he was online doing some research, Now I have not been able to get in contact with him due to his vacation right now
But he was looking at my paint color very very carefully, and said that there is like a mica flake in it or something to that effect. Now he took this though and was online and looked it up to the best of his knowladge (my boss in a automotive encyclopedia except opels)
He looked and looked and found something
Where there were only two 1969 1.1 4 speeds in this color ever built
The one is overseas in a meuseum somewhere
The other, the last known whereabouts of the other one was somewhere on the eastern to northeastern seabored of the U.S.
Well I got my car from New Jersey
I know its a long shot but I would appreciate some help
Thanks everyone
Happy Opeling
Mike,

what color is your GT?...where did the production number for the 1.1GT come from? I thought they built around 3000 of them. How can I find out how many silver/red interior 1.1 GT were made?

The number imported into the USA with 1.1 Litre motors was around 342 the rest of the production stayed in Europe - where they did not have to compete with ...... corvettes

Just got to keep asking questions to find out how many of what were made though Opel may not even still have that info. Silver with Red interior was one of the more popular combinations.

Two Types ..

In 1969 there were two types of paint used, The 'old' enamel and the 'new' Acrylic Laquer. The 'same' colours look different.

Jim, where's this 342 number coming from? I have read that around one-third of the 1.1L GT production was imported to the united states (~1,000).

The silver paint was highly subject to weathering effects. So the original paint may appear different amongst cars today. Also, the enamel/acrylic thing.

From this post: http://www.opelgt.com/forums/83095-post2.html

Maybe we can get Jonzo to give us more info about the book - even scan us the page concerned ?? According to the book "Opel GT Project 1484"

Mike, What are the numbers on the VIN Plate of your car? - the original paint code will be stamped on there.

Colour Code

Mike, The colour code is in the bottom line on the VIN tag. In this example it is L751 JJ
The L751 = Black Upholstery JJ = Flame Red paint

Garage
The UU stands for the Opel Paint code for silver...in 1969 in the United States it was called Astro Silver and available on the Manta A and GT.

So I take it that is the silver that I need to get for my car then
Is it hard to find? Rare? or a year only color
Im just curious to find a little more history about my car
Thanks
Mike,

Paint Codes ..

Mike,
The 741 is the upholstery colour: Think it is Red

Other interior codes: Black (751), Blue (711) or Buckskin (721), the later being avalailable from 1969 onwards.

The UU is the paint colour - Astro Silver Metalic also known by the Opel Code L135 or 135

http://www.opelgt.com/forums/opel-te...ht=paint+codes

Ditzler code 32905 for enamel and 32904 for Acrylic.
There should be another marking on the VIN plate specifying Enamel or Acrylic paint. Any halfway decent Automotive paint shop should get you the right paint with the Ditzler Codes - might have to ask for the "Old Paint Guy" though!

Good Question ..

My Kadett Rallye has gloss black hood and stripes and I have always assumed it was repainted at some time and the original was matt black - but don't know for sure.
Done some extensive searching myself but have not found any specs for the black paint. HELP!

Colours ...

Mike: The Buick/Opel parts book that lists paint colour and type in the front has this to say:
" (*) Used for models finished in Acrylic Lacquer - Antwerp, Belgium Production "

" (+) Used for models finished in Enamel - Bochum, Germany Production "

Since the GTs were all produced in Bochum I would guess they had Enamel paint ....
Anyone confirm that ??

Tom: The only reference I have seen to the Rallye Black-Out paint says "Satin Black" ... what ever that is ??

satin black is a semi gloss finnish (looks like the shine on brushed aluminium or eggshell paint for a wall, not gloss not matt )
can be bought in rattle cans here or from an auto paint shop
