chrome bolts

Short of taking some to a chrome shop and getting them plated yhere are none. I would use stainless and police them if you want them to shine ( and they won't rust) Floor plug are available as reproductions from Opel GT Source.

George;
The bolts you need to find are called "carraige" bolts, sometimes referred to as "bumper" bolts. They have a domed head, some are chromed, but, they have a square flange, just under the head. The square flange is what fits into the holes on the bumper and hold the bolt while tightening the nut.

I bought some for my '51 Olympia from Bolt Depot. Great quality, several diameters and lengths available. Quick shipment.

Also bought their SS Metric bolt assortment. Man has that saved search time!

Sizes

Anyone know what the size of the metric bolts are that attach the front bumper to the GT? Since I am getting my bumpers re-chromed, it's a good idea to go back with chrome bolts. I was going to use stainless, but chrome is better to me.

Stainless Bolts

Until I re-plate my front & rear bumpers, stainless steels bolts are my replacement choice for my GT. Available locally, West Marine has Marine Grade Stainless and local Industrial Hardware Store also has stainless.

No problem with rust on stainless steel bolts, yet, in Southern Calif.

Keep us updated on the floor plugs and how they work out. I hope to start on my other one, at the rate I'm going, in the next decade. Jarrell

Bumper question

I got a question about the front bumper...
My front bumper rattles, and it is attached with the four bolts outside the bumper but not attached to the "bumper support". Could any body describe what bolts would go through the bumper support and into the chrome bumper?
Thanks

There's a frame that slides inside the frame rails in the nose of the GT. If memory serves me right, there's 4 or 6 bolts just holding that frame in the frames of the GT. Then you have 2 or 3 bolts on the bumper guards, and they attach to this same frame.

The GT has four bolts which hold the front bumper bar in place. Then there are three bolts holding each one of the bunperettes. Several years ago we started using polished stainless steel bolts on all of our projects. You can find all sizes in both metric and sae at a marine supply store and they are not that expensive.

There are two additional bolts that you cant see off the bat. These two bolt the center section of bumper to the bumper bar and must be inserted in place when the bumper bar is loose. And of course there are two additional ones for the outer center section and two for the bumper end which attach to the threaded lip on the fenders.

Overall, you should have:
4 bolts that attach the bumper bar to the chassis.
2 bolts that attach the bumper to the bumper bar.
2 bolts that attach the bumper to the outer side of the nose.
2 bolts that attach the bumper to the fender lip.
6 bolts that attach the bumperette to the bumper bar.
