Unanswered: Emblem Removing?

How do I remove the emblems on my Opel GT? I tugged on the front logo and it just popped off, but the lettering in the tail isn't as loose. Should I use a screwdriver to pry it off (it hasn't been painted yet)?

The emblems just pull off, you could use a screwdriver but be careful as the pegs can easily break off, idealy if you go in through the inside of the car you can tap on the pegs from with inside with a small hammer.

they are held in by pegs cast onto the back that go through rubber grommets

if you do snap them off you can use two sided trim tape cut to shape to put them back

Another alternative, if you do happen to break the pegs off the leterrs, OGTS has chrome plated plastic reproduction letters available. But to avoid busting the pegs off, be very careful and go through the rear and as said earlier tap them out. Another possiblility is to remove the taillights and see if you can access them throught the taillight holes.

Thanks, I got the lenses off and the emblems off without breaking a single peg. I am still working on the back bumper and I can't get 4 bolts off. Two in the far corners and two others that are only slightly obscured. Any hints?

This is my 100th post. Yeah!

Does anyone know where you can get the little rubber grommets that hold the emblems in place? OGTS? If not, what have you done to secure the emblems once you put them back on? Thanks...

A little silicone in the holes and on the back of the pegs does the trick.

on older cars that you can't get parts for, we sometimes use cut down little sheetrock wall plugs. You can buy them at home depot for less than $2.00 and cut down to what you need.

Roy, I asked the same question a year or so ago and got some from folks on the site, also got some more from OGTS when I ordered another set of trashed letters from them. I'll look around in the garage and see if I can find them. If I find them they're yours.

Ron, Thanks and thanks to others who have given their opinions. If anyone does have the little rubber grommets they would be willing to sell, that would be great! The ones that have come out of my GT are hard as a rock so I doubt they would be any good to put back in.

Roy, PM me with your address, I found those little beasties sitting in a box on top of the TV in the garage. 6 original, used, black plastic and 8 white, new from OGTS. I'll put them in a baggie and send them off soon as I get your address.

No one would have a spare set of those rubber clips any more, would they? I'm putting my emblems back on. If not I'll just use drywall plugs and some glue.

As regards the front Blitz emblem, I just pushed it on, and it stuck. It's held on for over 6000 miles now. When I wax the car I just pull it off.

So here's a question along with this thread. When I put the front emblem back on my car I put the emblem on the hood and then pushed the plastic retainers on from inside the hood. When I did the lettering on the rear panel I tried the same method and they would not stay on so I wound up pushing the tiny plastic retainers into the holes from outside the car and then pushed the emblem pins into the retainers, also from outside the car. I looked at doing the same thing for the front emblem but the holes in the body were much too small so I left it alone. What is the real way to install these, not that I am going to change mine at this point but I thought it would be nice to know for myself and others.

Back in the days when reproductions were not available, I stripped some 12ga (or maybe it was 10ga) wire, and used the insulation. It's held for over 12 years now.

Jeff, the ones I took off Willit? had flanges on them, so they could only be inserted from the outside and the the emblem/letters installed. Or you could put them on the legs and insert them as a unit. HTH.

The flanges are pushed against the inside of my hood to hold the blitz, the flanges on the rear of the car are between the body and the letters since the plastic pieces were pushed in from outside the car as well as the letters. The flanges are so thin that you can't tell that the letters are raised slightly. I like it that way because dirt will not get trapped back there and hold moisture.

This is what came across on a German site [Opel Forum Hecktriebler] 4mm nylon plugs:

and they do a very good job, just use them as a normal plug, it sits tight and it even has a little flange so it doesn't fall thru
