Thumbs up Unanswered: Classic Opel GT Mirrors at OGTS

For those who have been waiting for the classic mirrors like those that came with the car, OGTS just got in a large shipment of them. The mirrors are for driver and passenger side... The price is not bad either ($62 dollars I think), These mirrors are metal and not plastic chrome. I'm loving mine!!!

Mirrors

pictures would be nice, also are they identical reproductions, or "so close you cannot tell?"

The ones that are now circulating around ARE chromed units that look so close you cannot tell. I got a pair from Germany when I first started seeing them more and more often.

Well... since you asked.
I hope this upload works.

These do look very well done. Were the passenger side mirrors ever standard on GT's....or were they always an option? If they were a standard feature on the GT's...what years and what countries?

Is there any advantages to the passenger side mirror......I wouldn't think they would add to the looks or am I wrong? Certain vehicale I'm owned have really need passenger side mirrors for blindspots......does The GT have this problem? I just bought my GT and it's not really driveable.

A pair that look identical to the OGTS mirrors sold on Ebay this week for $108. I looked at the OGTS online catalog and did't see a listing for their mirrors. Was it a phone in an order? Thanks, Jerry

I don't know what was standard issue or optional from dealer as per passenger side mirror, mine has both, both look a bit ratty so these look tempting. I use my passenger side one, certainly helps to see if that lane is free but it doesn't replace a quick head check.
I do like the look of these better most any others I've seen (although the fender mounts are intriguing they get in the when working on the car I've recently read)
Also, not sure mine are installed in exact stock location (PO did it).

Posted this in another thread, but I am looking for the distance for the side mirror mount holes, do you happen to know what the distance is? It seems that most mirrors sold a/m seem to be about 4.25 or so, and I would like to try to spend less than 70 bucks (which I know sounds cheap) on each mirror if possible.

Then you might want to look at these:
OPEL OLYMPIA REKORD D SPORTY PAIR DOOR MIRROR NEW v7:eBay Motors (item 180426632926 end time Nov-07-09 00:45:08 PST)
These are what a lot of the Opelers all over Europe are getting. These are copies of the engelmann mirrors that can run as high a several hundred $$$, but, you can buy these all day long for $25 for a pair. Then you're going to wonder about the quality, trust me, I have both the realies and the copies, and they're the SAME! I even showed them to the group at Carlisle, and all were impressed by the quality.

I'd like to update the mirrors that I previously posted. The adhesive that holds the mirror to the base ended up letting go on both mirrors. Cannot say if it was something that has been resolved since my units.

The passenger mirror was never fitted as standard, therefore it would be ordered prior to delivery or could be retro fitted at a later date.

In the UK we definately need the passenger mirror as we obviously need this for safe over-taking.

I totally agree with what you're saying. I have 4 pairs and some brand new (NOS) Engelmanns too. I would say the quality is 98% of the original, the butterfly screw retaining the foot to the main housing is metal in the original and it's plastic in the repro, but apart from that i think they're great......it's a shame its a view not shared by all the Opelers in europe. I know some of them, who like to deal in Engelmanns, who do their best to 'poo-poo' the repro! My take on it is that for most people the repro is fine however certain Opels; Manta i200-400, Ascona 400 which had them fitted as standard and therefore for those people doing a ground-up resto who would probably go for the originals.....and happily pay the additional premium.

They deffo look great so i dont see any reason why not buy them.Do you know if the glass on the repro is perpendicular with the mirror or not?A couple of repro they have perpendicular mounting for the glass and unless you have the mirror in strange angles you cant see anything. If you take a look on the engelmann the glass is angled on the mounting.

These Engelmann repos are just like the originals in that the head of the mirror swivels pretty good. It'd be hard not to get them to work, unless you just mounted them in the wrong place on your door, or fenders/wings
