Unanswered: Dismantling Of Door Handle/locks

I took my door handles to a locksmith to have some keys made. He is having trouble removing the exterior cyliner that slides in as well as the dust cover that covers the lock cylinder (where you insert the key). Can anyone tell me how it comes apart so that I can pass on to the locksmith?

Thanks

Hope this helps

I just recently took my drivers side door handle apart, to replace the little spring loaded door that covers the keyhole.
After getting the door handle assy out of the door, you have to remove an inside retaining ring (circlip?) that is at the inside end of the lock, where the pushrod comes out (watch out, I lost the first one I took out when it went flying). This will allow the lock assy to slide out the back end (the same end as the retaining ring).
The cylindrical chrome dust cover is held onto the lock cylinder by being crimped in at 2 spots. Not knowing any other way, I drilled these out (don't drill deep, just enough to remove the crimped area of the dust cover. Then, the cover can slide off the front (it may be fairly tight due to grease and dirt). Be careful at this point, as the slotted circular cover (w/ the spring loaded door behind it) is only held on by the dust cover cylinder and may fall out. The little spring loaded piece is held in by a small steel rod that fits into grooves in the lock cylinder.
Once I replaced the dust cover cylinder, I just recrimped it onto the 2 holes on the outside of the lock cylinder, by installing the cylinder so that it covered the holes at an undrilled part of the cylinder. Then reinstall the entire cylinder into the handle and reinstall the retaining ring.
I hope this helps. Sorry, but I didn't take any pics while I was doing it.
