After cleaning up the turn signal housings with steel wool 00 grade.
Should I clear coat them or just wax them?
Help I'm out of my zone here.

As long as you did not cut through the chrome anywhere I would just use good synthetic wax, clear coat will change the finish.

Never Dull Cleaner

What I been using to clean Chrome is the very fine steel wool 0000( more 0's the finer the wool) good on chrome and glass. Will not scratch, Do not rub too hard and use "Never Dull" or chrome polish to help loosen pits. Then I use a good canuba wax and buff to a high gloss shine. Just go over the chrome everytime you wash the car to prevent water spots. I hope that helps and good luck. I wouldn't clear coat

I've been using products from Perfect Auto Finish for two years now and they have great stuff. What I like about their chrome product is that is is safe on your paint in case of over-spray and is clear so it doesn't leave residue on rubber trim and such. It also does a great job on removing water spots and even exhaust residue on the exhaust tips and rear bumpers. From what I understand, canuba based products "melt" in high temperatures. Synthetic products last longer overall.

What I've been using for years, and it works for me, is, depending on the severity of rust, is DuPonts #7 rubbing compound, followed with their polishing compound, then their chrome polish. To get a really brilliant look I've been using Maguire's metal polish or "Simi-Chrome" on my polished aluminum hardware for the model racing boats. It's a fair amount of work to do all these steps, and I get nasty looking fingers, but IMHO it's worth the trouble.

Mother's works wonders as well...GREAT stuff. LOTS of truckers and Harley riders use it on their chrome, which is a good endorsement.

Try an old auto detailer's trick for cleaning chrome, take a piece of aluminum foil and rub the chrome to a shine (it will not scrach the chrome finish) then polish with a good metal polish such as Flitz and buff to a high shine. I know it sounds crazy but believe me it does work.

I've never heard of this but it sounds to me like it would deposit aluminum on the surface of the chrome and then eventually you could get aluminum oxide on the surface of the chrome or in the chrome so I would be hesitant to try this trick JMO.

I've used foil many times to remove light surface oxidation on chrome but always wet the foil with water. Works great. My mother taught me about it years ago

With a review like that, how can it be wrong (your mother wouldn't steer you wrong)I have been doing it for a long time and it does not leave an aluminum deposit or anything else that makes your chrome look bad. We have to remember the difference between cleaner, polish and protection and it is not all done with the same produce.
