Unanswered: GT jack points

There is what looks like a reinforced "frame" member that runs across the car just forward of the front cylindrical jack points. It has a couple of cricular openings on the bottom of it on each side of the car.

When jacked up at a forward jack point can this cross member have a jack stand placed under it and the jack removed? If so, how far towards the center of the car can the jackstand be placed?

That's more than likely the engine subframe, and yes you can put jackstands under it. But to drop the engine out the bottom of the car, no you can't use it for the stands. I would use the jack points for the stands, it will lift the front of the car just a bit higher than using the subframe. JMTCW.

I always use that when jacking the car up to put ON the jacks. Makes it easier to lift the whole front of the car and place the jacks under both points.

And what is a good jack point for the rear of the car to get the car up high enough to get stands under the actual jack points?

Lift the car by the center of the rear end housing.

Ok what I do:

Rear: Jack under the rear diff housing, careful not to damage the lid.
Then, jack stands under both jack points.

Front: Jack under the suspension traverse
Then, jack stands under both jack points.

Dare I ask - what is "the lid"?

Yes...

Thisone has the "lid" or diff cover off..

It's just thin sheet metal and it's fairly fragile. So use caution when placing a jack or jackstand under the rear diff.
