Unanswered: I need pics or drawing of door lock

My drivers side door lock is acting up... I need to do something about it, but before I pull everything apart I'd like to see some pictures or drawings of how the lock mechanism works. I've searched everywhere but can't find anything.

The problem is that the door locks itself and can´t be opened from the inside (can be kinda bad in a crisis situation). If the door is locked when opened the pin does not spring up completely when the door is closed, there is something that doesn't return as it should in the lock, I don't know if there is a bind or something else.

I'm kind of hoping to be able to rectify the problem without having to unbolt everything, so having an understanding of the lock would be very helpful.

Stefan,

I think you have to bite the sour apple and take it apart. Once you have a clear view of it, the function lays pretty much clearly in front of you.

No big deal getting it apart, the most difficult thing will be removing the door panel without causing any damage, especially if you have original door panels, just make sure you pry right next to the panel clips so that you don't rip the panel. Make sure you understand how to get the window winder off too, I get mixed up between my Ghia and the Opel but I think there is a pin that has to be drifted out which you can see by pushing the door panel back at the winder.

I have a used door that I am going to cut the outer sheet metal panel off to take photos of the door lock and window regulator for installation of power door locks and power window motor for the GT's ( the door is a spare I got from Gene ) and I am going to take photos and post here on the site . I will be doing this later in the week (I need to party today !! ) but will try to PM you with the first photos to help you . HTH

I might have a spare junky door I could cut apart to get you a view of the inside. I will have to check.. but if not I will try to get pictures for you anyway.

Sounds like guyopel will help you out as well, but I'll go out in the garage in a few here and see what I can do!

Got a 'donor door' and started cutting, but cutting disc wore down and don't have any replacements right now lol. I've got to run out to the store tomorrow anyway, so I'll pick up a few and get it finished.

might not be useful but...

had similar problem but with my rekord d - door locking pin did not fix itself in upper position and locked the door when i shut it, keys in ignition lock and engine running

ended up with taking the complete locking mechanism out of the door and after looking at it for a 30 minutes realized that a little spring that fixes the locking pin in position had broken (found pieces in bottom of the door).

I suppose that taking out the mechanism from your door is easier than finding that little special spring for replacement. i found out that a spring from bike brake lever worked fine with little bending.

as I said, it might not be useful (still talking about rekord) so don´t hit me.

Thanks for the tips guys. I had to bite it and get the lock out.

The biggest problem was getting the lock past the guide for the window, it was dang near impossible!

I cleaned the lock throuroghly and examined it, and the spring that Erix mention had completely lost it's spring. I fabricated a new one.

I also had to bend a small metal flap since the metal plate that the star pushes on could not push the vertical opening-thingy far enough to the left to unlock the door when the door was closed. I guess that accounts to wear.

Now the lock works perfectly!

Too bad though that my clutch cable broke this afternoon when I was on my way home from work, now the car sits a good distance away with no clutch... Dang!!!

Thanks Sparky, but I'm finished with the door, I plan on uploading a few pics of the mechanism myself that I took when I had it out. But thanks anyway!

Now I'm going to dive into the dark realm of clutch cables...

So here is a pic I took of the lock. It's a pretty complicated thing, but I got the hang of it after a while.
