Unanswered: Windows: Storage Ideas?

Well I've finally began working on the GT again. I've already taken out all of the windows.. Basically for the fact that it seems like everything is easier to get out with the glass out of the car.

Anyways.. right now I've just got the front and rear windows leaning up against some boxes and stuff in the back of the garage. IMO, it's not very safe. With the large curve on the windshield, I'm afraid of a little pressure getting put on it, and having it crack. Just looking for some idea's or input on how or where to store these fragile parts.

At last count, I have stored the following under the guest bed downstairs:

1) One GT windshield
2) 3 GT rear windows
3) 2 GT rear side windows
4) 2 GT Door windows
5) 1 Ascona windshield

I just wrapped them up in shipping blankets and slid them CAREFULLY under the bed. I think they have been there about five years to date, and I have checked them twice a year when I swap the winter and summer floor mats for my Lexus each season. CAUTION! DO NOT DO THIS UNDER A BED USED BY JUMPING CHILDREN!!!

I can tell you on Willit?, I had the windows, all of them, in a fairly large wood pile box I made for storing wood for the fireplace. We never got that much wood, so the box was empty until I stuffed a lot of the parts I removed from the car. They were unprotected from the weather for almost 4-5 years, but cleaned up nicely prior to installation. The door panels and other upholstery pieces, I had in the box, didn't fare so well though.

I keep the windows for my 48 Chevy truck, my 70 Chevelle, and a couple of others stored in my garage. Best trick is to go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy the small diameter pipe insulator with the split sides and wrap the edges with the foam insulators. They can lean against each other and the insulators keep them spaced apart, and protects the edges from damage.

I will second this line of thinking by adding:

DO NOT STORE GLASS ANYWHERE WHERE CHILDREN MIGHT HAVE ACCESS.

All my windshields which have been broken while in storage came from nephews and other people's rugrats. Somehow, glass just "gets broken" when little kids are around. And since kids like to play in barns and garages (even when told not to), you need to get creative in your hiding spots.

LOL. Well no small children ever come over here, so I think I'm safe. The youngest living here is my sister, and she is 16. I would hope she would know better. There are no spare bedrooms, so under a bed is out. I have a little bit of attic spare in the garage, but don't like the idea of having to crawl up and down a ladder with a windshield in hand. When I restored my first GT, I had 2 extra parts cars along with it. One of them having no windshield, I could just set my good glass into the opening. I then just ran some tape along the edge 'just incase'.

I've got spare glass for the Opel and a full set of Mini windows in storage in my basement. I just wrapped them in blankets. I stood them up instead of laying them flat. I figured it was less likely someone would come along and plunk down a box of junk on them that way.

My first thought was under a bed also. However, if you have a wood deck with an little bit of space under it, you can store the front glass there. The spiders will protect it too. I stored mine there safely for years.
