Isn't there a screw I can adjust to adjust the tension on the spring? |

There should be some give as the seats are basically just metal frames. Too much give could mean that your front anchors on the floor board have cracked or ripped loose and need repair. You might check the passenger seat to see if it has the same amount of lean back. A passenger seat usually doesn't get used as much and are less likely to have the front anchor problem.

My seat is very firmly anchored to the unrusted floor. I'm referring to the spring in the lever mechanism that you lift to adjust your seat position. When you push back on the upper part of the seat, or lean back... the spring in the lever mechanism allows the chair to lean further back slightly.

going on memory its not a spring but a ratchet system to tilt the seats , i dont remember any kind of adjustment in the system , if it has a good firm hold upright but can flop down under weight when tilted back a bit i think the teeth of the ratchet may be worn

It's been a couple of years sisnce I rebuilt my seats, but I do believe there is a spring within the rachet mechanism resulting in the give you are feeling.....

When the ratchet engages properly, there is no "give" in the seat-back. The spring is there to return the seat to the upright position when the lever is lifted, disengaging the ratchet. The spring doesn't "support" the seat-back against the weight of the person in the seat. If the seat back reclines when the lever isn't lifted, then the ratchet isn't engaging
