Unanswered: Window chrome trim question

OK, I am in the last stages of my 71 GT bodywork being done. (yes it has taken for-freakin-ever). I was told that I will need to get all new window trim as the old trim was trashed, and that it is needed to hold some gaskets in place. Does this mean I need to get all of that trim for all around the window, or just the door window channel molding?

I am fairly sure that I have seen some GT's that don't have the chrome trim that goes on the upper portion of the door, and I kind of like the look of not having it. I would rather just have to have the door window channel molding.

So, can someone tell me the need/purpose of the door window chrome trim other than just looks? I mean that part that goes up and over where the door/window track is as if I don't have to get that, I won't, I'll just get that lower door window channel molding.

Thanks

Paulie

The stainless trim around the door windows is just eye candy, except for the lower piece. It holds the rubber window scraper against the window to keep water and other debris from getting down inside the door. The other two trim pieces are held in by the window channel rubber track, and IIRC, a screw in the top rear corner. HTH.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the 2 pieces of trim on the doors connected with a pop-rivit - not a screw? I just took mine off a week ago and I just drilled the center out so the pieces popped off.

Also, what is the easiest way to remove the window rubber/scrapper from the aluminum trim piece? I believe Opel GT Source stocks the rubber, but you have to use your trim. I havn't tried removing it yet because mine are in good shape (minus the rubber) and I didn't want to damage anything.

Yep, you're right, forgot about that. I put mine back together with a 1/8" (#6) sheetmetal screw, 1/2" long.
