Unanswered: Manta Window Rubber

Before I pull the trigger on ordering Manta windshield and rear window rubber from Europe - does anyone here possibly have some for sale, or is there a source in the US?

Todd,

If you do an order I'll go in with you for a rear window Manta gasket and maybe a front too. I need to know if the replacement (Dr. Manta?) leaves room for the chrome insert or is a different aftermarket design.

Jim;
The gasket Dr Manta sells does have the channel for the chrome locking strip, in fact he sells the chrome strip, or you can do a black locking strip like on my Wagon.

I'll go in on the front windshield gasket. The one I bought from a member a few years ago has already failed and I need a new one again....

I purchased Manta rubbers 18 months ago for Scrapman and myself. I could not find any in the US and had to go overseas. I used Peter Sendfft at PS Autoteille, but of course there are several. Good Opeling.

Cool...sounds like perhaps we need to get word out that we're placing an order and see how many others would be interested. It certainly saves on shipping. The pricing I got from Wolfgang was 99euro for the front and rear rubbers, plus 55euros shipping. I'm wanting to go with the black trim strip, but I'm wondering if that piece might be available in the US?

Also, perhaps we could make this easier if Dieter is still offering his assistance in doing European bank transfers?

Just a quick update - I got an email from Wolfgang saying that the GTE window rubber does NOT have the channel for the trim, which is what I was wanting. Doesn't really affect us placing a group order, but I thought I'd throw this info out there in case anyone else is interested.

Todd,

I have seen cars without the channel and it definitely changes the look. But if there's no other source for original style windshield rubbers I'll still likely want to go in. If anyone knows of other sources please let us know.

Jim,
I should have clarified - they actually sell both types, along with a lot of other stuff. The website is www.dr-manta.de

Ahhh..... my bad, I should have just looked at the site in the first place. Anyway, if and when you get ready send me a PM and I'll have an order to add to the shipment.

I have a cheaper source in Germany where I bought my GT gasket last year. The price on their website is EUR 50.27 for either version. This includes sales tax (which you don't have to pay), and they charged me EUR 37 shipping last year, I had it within less than a week.

Like the other Dieter, I can help you with bank transfers, as I still have my German bank account. Let me know.

I've got the type with the lock strip but I'm using the black vs the chrome... still I'd need just the front...

I would like to add to my first post, that the gaskets from OTR do not have the cover lip for the dashboard, the ones from Dr. Manta do. But they cost half the money.
Quality wise, I am very happy with the GT rubber.
Again, they do have the regular (for chrome strip) and GT/E gaskets.

I would guess I have the Manta window rubber from OTR since there is no cover lip for the dash... About a year after the new gasket was installed, the joint where the two ends were bonded together pulled apart... can you say massive water leak.

I would be interested in the trunk rubber for a Manta and a Kadett if that could be done on the same order?

Let me know. Thanks!

Vickie

P.S. I think Thomas Kahlert is also interested in trunk rubber for a Manta.

I'd be interested in the trunk rubber and door rubber. I already have new windshield and rear window rubber.

OGTS sells the trunk rubber if that's easier. Not sure if it's the same for Manta and Kadett but my uncle says that the Ascona hatch rubber is the same as the Manta trunk rubber.

Also, Guyopel had mention that you can use the chrome strip from something like a Ford Fiesta which is inexpensive and available locally. Didn't place it securely into the memory banks because I'm a GT/J fan.

That would be a Mercury Capri 1972 - 1975 and when you find a Dealer that has it in stock try to buy all they have if they give you a good price . HTH

Guys, I'm all for going in together for an order from Dr-Manta as it will save us some significant cash in shipping. I've headed up group buys here before (aluminum flywheels) and that worked out great, but my current situation is such that I cannot act as the distribution point once the order comes in. I work near Philly through the week, and have lived my work weeks in a hotel now for nearly a year. I'm home only on weekends for the most part. Is anyone else willing to head this up? I'll be ordering two sets of GTE windshield rubber, front and rear - plus two sets of trunk rubber unless we confirm that OGTS has it available.

Todd;
If you can get everyone to commit to this, the main package could be sent here to me and I can ship it out to each person, using my company's UPS discount. Just throwing an idea out there....

Gene, this would be great, and would save everyone even more $$. Thanks for offering! Last piece of the puzzle is money collection - Dieter (heimue), can you help us with this transaction? I would think we could have everyone that wants in on the order to post their items (with item number from www.dr-manta.de) here in this thread, assuming it's ok with Gary? Another alternative might be to start a poll with part numbers and descriptions, and have everyone pick what they want to order. Once the poll closes, we can assemble the order and get shipping costs, and then once ALL money is collected, the order would be placed and shipped to Gene. Gene could then distribute the pieces to everyone once they settle up for UPS shipping (otherwise, Gene ends up with some free window gaskets!). Again, just throwing this out as an idea...with a little organization we can make sure that none of the people willing to help us (namely Gene and Dieter) proceed at risk.
Sounds like the trunk rubber is available stateside, so perhaps we can limit this to window rubber.

Todd

Thanks Dieter!

Everyone who wants in on the order needs to go to the dr-manta website and post the part numbers that they want in this thread. Once we have that, we can set up a poll to establish the final order. I'd like to post the poll here on Monday, and perhaps leave the poll open for a week to give everyone a chance to respond. Finally, please limit items to things like window rubber or similar items - i.e. we're not up for ordering sheet metal! Just trying to save Opelers a few $$ on items we can't easily get in the US.

Thanks again Gene and Dieter!
