Todd let me in on the order so it's a bigger lot still. I also mentioned we should ask for a volume discount on an order this big. Nothing rude about that. Also want to make sure he has this much stuff in stock.

This only shows that the seller does not know what he is talking about. There will not be any import documentation before the shipment is in the States. Before it is here it needs to be shipped. Before it gets shipped it needs to get paid. When we pay it, we will pay the full value - but not the sales tax.
Todd, why don't you ask him exactly which papers he needs (as of his opinion). I bet he doesn't know, and wants you to find out.
I have received numerous small boxes from Germany (50+) in a value of under 800$, they just get dropped on my doorstep. I have received 3 larger shipments in the last 15 month, all over 800$ of value, and only had to pay a small customs charge. I've never paid German sales tax, and I never filled out any form. All that is done by the German exporter. Tell him to send the stuff by Iloxx, this is a very reliable German freight forwarder, they pick up the box at his place, and fill out the forms or at least give him everything that needs to be filled out.
End of story.

Dieter,

Sounds like you are the voice of authority here. Maybe you should have a chat with Wolfgang to clear things up. I'm sure you have a cheap phone connection to Germany. I agree with Mitch that it's also not rude to ask for a volume discount on an order of thousands of dollars of small parts. Can't hurt to ask anyway. Also want to know he has the stock to fill the order.

It's all in progress already. I'd also cut off the order collection now, and suggest that Todd posts the final order document again.

Agreed Dieter...unfortunately I've just been extremely busy as my schedule is crazy. It will likely be late tonight or tomorrow night before I have much of a chance to update everything, but I'll post the final update as soon as I can.

Thanks all,

Appreciate you guys FINALLY closing the order. The longer it stayed open the more tempted I was to order something! Maybe another order can be done in the future.

It amazes me how helpful members on this list are especially those that go out of their way to be helpful.

Todd, Dieter;
If either of you can find out how big the order will be, "physically", I'll let you know whether it's better to send the package(s) to work or have it delivered to my house.

A circular comment I agree wholeheartedly with. Gene and Dieter are prime examples of fine fellows and I'd testify so in court.

BTW, it may be tough to get a bulk discount from someone who has a near-monopoly on these parts, but I'd start by asking, "Would you offer a discount for a small-parts lot of $1000?" If he says no, I'd say, "What about $2,000?" If still no, I'd say, "What about $3000?" You get my drift. (Unfortunately, this is somewhat like what they did on Wall Street except they were leveraging instead of discounting.)

Thanks again to our market "enablers."

Manta Germany order

Todd,
Several Opelers at the Springfield Rt. 66 meet expressed interest in still getting in on the order. I for one would like to order the front windshield gasket with channel for a 1975 Manta (I did indicate that desire in the poll posted above). Hopefully it is not too late to add the item or for the other members to get their orders in as well.
Was any mention made of getting any 74/75 Manta motor mounts? Seems those are impossible to find on this side of the pond as well and I certainly would be in for a pair of those. Thanks, Gordy

Thanks alot Gordy. I knew there was something I just HAD to have. I need one if they're available. And my racing buddy needs a pair. So that's three IF they're available and we can get our order in. At some point though regardless final order has to be the final order until next time if there is a next time. I have a feeling this is going to be a monumental task keeping all of this straight.

Regarding motor mounts - there are two listed on the site. One is part number 01110046 (Early Version Left) and 01110047 (Early Version Right). Gordy and hrcollinsjr, please PM me with what you want by the end of the day. They're 76 Euros each. Order will be finalized this evening.

Regards,
Todd K.

Todd;
Early Version means just that, the 71-73 Manta/Asconas. These WILL NOT work on the 74-75 models. If the 74-75 models aren't listed, then you can't get them, at least not through Wolfgang. I have not checked o-t-r | Alles fr Ihren Opel or with Anthony Drosos in Greece.

Dr-Manta Order

The US motor mounts are not available. The mounts for the US Manta are different than the versions on the European versions.

The European Manta mounts are the version similar to the '71-73 US cars. The '74-75 engine cross members have a small bracket welded on to accept the bolts for the that specific US mount. The original '71-73 mounting hole is still present on the cross member beneath the bracket added for the '74-75 mount. The change in style was designed to keep the motor from leaping into the radiator if the mount broke, or so the speculation has it.

Attached is the revised order list. No motor mounts will be included in the order due to the limited availability. Note that the Adjusted Price and Totals now reflect a 19% VAT adjustment. Dieter, if you could kindly communicate this to Wolfgang to see if he has all these items in stock that would be greatly appreciated.

Assuming we can go forth with the order (i.e. no back-order issues, etc.), the next step will be to coordinate getting totals for everyone and setting up payment for Dieter. With the current volatility of world markets and the fact that the "sunny" US economy is rapidly becoming a red giant (for astronomy buffs), dealing with exchange rates could get tricky. I'm open to suggestions, but we need to ensure that we give Dieter enough of a buffer to make sure the order gets covered. Exchange rates have been improving (for us) as of late, so hopefully that trend will continue.

Finally, please note that the order is now closed. No new item requests or additions will be accepted at this time. For those of you listed on the order, please let me know asap if there are any errors.

Cheers,
Todd K.

Todd,

do you have your list as an Excel file for me? I have to update your prices, the adjusted values for the net amounts (w/o tax) are wrong. Example: 99/1.19 = 83.19.
Suddenly, after I emailed Wolfgang directly, not paying the sales tax is not a problem anymore.
Payment and exchange rates are my least worries, you will pay me by PayPal directly in Euro, and I do the bank transfer, just like when you use this "service" for German ebay purchases.
I'll give the final list to Wolfgang, have him find out stock, rebate and shipping cost, and split it up between everybody. Then, when all payments are in, I'll forward the money to Wolfgang.
The real work starts when Gene has to look through some dozen rubber parts and re-pack them for the correct receivers!

Dieter

..btw,

Dr Manta has many parts in stock, but we have alot of cheaper (smaller) sources in Europe,

One example:

Rubber channel windshield glass Manta A 1970-75 (108593)

Smaller shops sell rubbers like this for prices around 75 Euros on classic car fairs (i.e. Veterama)

but finally the source is the choice of the customer..

A couple of weeks ago I shipped classic BMW 2002 parts from Germany to the US. The value of the (heavy) lot was usd Euro 3987.-

We shipped the parts with the US army from Germany (Ramstein) to Tulsa.
The shipping costs were 0 (zero) .
The con was, that they ship only if space in the military plane is available, not insured, and somebody have to pick-up the parts at the military base in the US. This took some time, because of security check, visitor permit, legitimation letter, etc..
Also somebody have to arrange the shipping who is working at a military base in Germany and know the right people.

May be somebody know somebody ... ,...this can save alot of money and trouble.

btw, the Germany military office did all the tax and custom paper work ..

Hi Dieter,
Interesting on the Tax calculations - I figured they subtracted the 19% from the stated price. The values now use your calculation. I'll send you the spreadsheet via email.
Regards,
Todd K.
PS - can you ask Wolfgang whether they can label everything? Gene will need to know what's what when sorting all this stuff out.

The 19% is added to the pre-tax actual value:

pre-tax value * 1.19 = post-tax final price
post-tax final price / 1.19 = pre-tax value

I sure as hell will ask to get the parts labeled!

I did a quickie measuring job yesterday for the chrome windshield trim. These are absolute minimum lengths, you should order a little bit more to be on the safe side.

Ascona
Front - 142", rear - 136", total 278" or about 23'-2" total

Manta
Front - 140", rear - 128", total 268" or about 22'-4" total

Ascona wagon
Front - 142", rear 115", total 257" or about 21'-5" total

I didn't check my GT or my Kadett wagon however.

Bob

We're getting closer!

I had a chance this evening to look over the thread and the order carefully to make sure we're correct. I noticed one discrepancy with dallasmanta since he indicated he wanted enough chrome trim for 2 cars. All the chrome trim orders are for 4 meters, which should cover you for both front and rear window glass (i.e. 4 meters for the front, and 4 meters for the back) - that's probably overkill but it will ensure you have enough. Bob measured around 142" or so, which is 3.6 meters. Let me know if anyone wants that changed. I'm not sure whether it's available through OGTS.

I also calculated each person's amount owed (in Euros), which is also attached. The last order I posted had a spreadsheet error in the total amount of the order (not all the lines were summed). I cross checked this with the other sheet attached and they match (ok, they're off by 0.01 Euro but we probably can live with that!). Again, if you spot an error, let us know by posting it in this thread! I posted the files this time as pictures, so hopefully everyone will be able to view them.

Finally - remember this amount does NOT include shipping. We will need to add that once we confirm the order with Dr-Manta.de.

Dieter, I'll email you both of these spreadsheets for reference.

Cheers,
Todd K.
