Unanswered: dashpad vent studs
I suppose that the base could be epoxied into place. These have square steel bases with small teeth that were originally formed into the dashpad foam. Maybe new ones should be made with wider bases and threaded stainless steel posts. What have other people done? |

As to how to fix them to the existing dash, I have always used 5 minute epoxy to hold them in place. You first clean the area removing the old stuff and them epoxy the new ones in place. Let it dry over night and you are set to go. Make sure you do not over-tighten when installing the vents.

Those are two part connectors. One part is embedded in the dash and has a square hole in it. The other is the stud part that has the square base. If only the stud with the square base came out then it is just a matter of lining the square base up with the square hole and turning it 45 degrees. The small teeth rotate under the sides of the square hole to hold the stud in place. The problem is usually caused by over tightening the nut on the stud and causing the square base to rotate an additional 45 degrees, allowing the teeth to piont at the corners of the square hole and coming out. If the embedded part came out I don't know what you do. I have not had that happen.
