Unanswered: wagon interior redo, phase II

Got the second part of the upholstery done on the wagon.
(with a big thanks to Gene for the spare tire cover, mine
was beyond shot.) I had the cardboard covered with
material rather than repaint, I think it gives it a little more
of a finished look. The upholstery guy had to do a little
fabrication on the back panel to cover up the selenoid
that opens the back hatch. (That's the bulge right in the
middle there.) Next is the biggy...the seats. Going to have
to save up for that one. Luckily they're in not too bad a
shape, just the wrong color. Recaro's out of a VW, they
fit like they were made for it. That's it.
Don.

Don;
How are you mounting the Recaros? You can take the old stock seats, dis-assemble them, and use the bottom frame as a perfect mount for the new seats, and best of all you save yourself a ton of hassle and about $270. All it takes is two welds, a bit of grinding and a rattle can of paint.
Then the new seats will bolt right back in like stock seats.

Morning Gene, wish I woulda heard about that 6 months
ago. The mounting of the seats ended up costing as
much as the seats themselves, but turned out to be a
pretty clean install. Adjusters and mount plates were
had from Summit racing, the adapters to the adjusters
were fabricated out of some scrap aluminum. Had to
get rid of the VW electric adjustability but hey, this is
an old car. I'll take pics. when I pull the seats to be
covered.

Well, in the future, let me know, I'll give you the details as to how to do it. It's real slick. I did a set of Recaros for my 74 Wagon this way.

Can we get a "How to" thread? Tons of before and after pics. I wouldn't mind a set. I do have a set of REALLY nice GTE Recaros that need to go into a Manta.

last of the interior redo

All right! Took the recaros in for a recover today.
That'll do it for the interior of the wagon. I can
hardly wait. Red with black inserts. Also arranged
for the blitz emblem on the top insert. Oughta
look pretty cool. Pictures when I get them back
in about a week.
