Interesting. I've been mulling over whether or not to do PW's on my Manta
and have been studying Wayne Torman's SPAL GT install. Opel File Downloads - Opel Forums One thing I like about the SPAL is that it offers some options on motor location in the door which many aftermarked kits don't.

I have the "Spal Kits" in my GT for some time. They work Great flawlessly on a perfect working Opel GT Door Window. Sometimes you need to replace the bushings to remove extra clearance play.
The best place for the Spal Window Kits is slickcar.com also in opel links home page. (2 door window kit, 2 switches kit cost $124.95) can't beat that price Here are some photo's, I decided to mount the switches on the side of the center console. The Console is foam and easy to work with. The hardest part of the job was drilling out the door holes for the wires so when you close the door the wires won't get pinched. I also used a 12volt relay & fuse to power up the window system. This is just my suggestion's and I am sure it can be improved. I have had very good luck with this system and makes my GT more fun to drive

Which SPAL kit?
Mike. Did you use the SPAL 031-018 standard or SPAL 3300030 Deluxe heavy duty motor kit?
They are the same price at slickcar.com Thanks.

Guyopel was looking into doing a new GM off-the-shelf-parts do-it-yourself how-to for at least the GT and possibly the Manta/Ascona. But he's on a cruise right now. He had brought pics to one of our get togethers and was working with a skinless door. If you can wait a little, he might post about it.

I used the same kit Mike did, if he does not have the answer I do but it is at home so I can get the part number tonight if you still need it. My switches are mounted in my custom center console along with the power window switch and I used the W.I.D.E. door contacts to bring the power to both the windows and the mirrors. The contacts are very difficult to get right but are sweet as I don't have any wires that flex each time the door is operated.

This design seems to replace all the guts with new and it won't have any binding problems.

I am not crazy about the original window regulators either but they were no big deal to rebuild either. I have new stainless steel cable in mine that I got from McMaster and new guides that I got from OGTS, cleaned everything, lubed everything and they work like new. Since Mike replaced his door panels he no longer needs the hole plugs and I will be doing the same so you can't tell that the kits are inside. The number on the box that I still have from Spal is 33000031. I will look for the invoice to see if there are any other numbers.

I was just looking on the slickcar site and I think if I did it again I would use the deluxe kit with the higher torque motors. At the top of the stroke you can hear the unit straining a little and my regulators work quite well. I would recommend using a circuit breaker as protection, I already blew one fuse because I held the switch too long at the top of the stroke.

They sell the Deluxe high torque motor kit for the same price so why not?
What you say makes good sense. If there is no up or down limit protection for the motor, then the breaker is a good idea. Thanks again, Jeff.

Buy the switches with the lights inside, I connected them to the instrument panel lighting circuit, very nice at night.

To get back to the original intent of this thread I would be interested in any retrofit that works well in the GT since the original regulators do leave a little bit to be desired.

Power windows for Model 50 chassis?
Bumping this to the top as my search has revealed nothing so far.
Has anyone here fitted aftermarket power windows (SPAL, Autoloc, etc) to a Manta or Ascona? Gene hasn't (yet), but I was hoping others had perhaps tried it and could lend some advice and/or tips regarding what model to choose and any pitfalls they had come across. TIA, Bob
