Unanswered: 69 padded ash tray

I listed a 69 Gt padded ashtray on ebay and a question came from a gentlemen that i wasnt aware of. He asked if the frame was chrome? I didnt know that was an option. Was this an option or have owners just sanded off the black paint to make the steel look silver? I have seen regular ashtrays that folks have called chrome but i believe they just removed the black paint and polished the steel. I have searched this forum looking for pictures with no luck.
Thank you.

I picked up one awhile back that the metal trim is chrome. It might be light the A/T shifter handles some were black while others were chrome. Although I suspect that was a year specific thing unlike the flip open ashtray of the '68 model GT.

Hey that was my question. My original 69 had chrome and black leather padding. I have one which of course went under twenty feet of salt water and it is still chrome just not very good looking. Some trays could have been some alternative. sure been looking for a good one.

Here is a picture of mine. As far as I know all ashtrays had a chrome trim. Probably when the chrome became dull some people painted them black.
