Unanswered: Foam under the headliner
When I removed the old liner I found a very thin foam under it. This foam was glued to the metal, including the pillars.I gues it made the liner look "puffy" when installed on these pillars. What should I use to replace this foam.I am having a hard time finding such thin stuff? Thanks |

Check out the stuff called Ensolite on this page. I have been somewhat creative for this problem and did not use the Ensolite myself but if I had it to do over again I would. In my Ghia I used pool table felt under the liner. In the GT I used some stuff I got at Home Depot. I went to the insulation area a picked up a roll of stuff that is bubble wrap that has aluminum bonded to it, it is about 1/4" thick, I glued it to the roof with spray adhesive. On the door pillars I used some heavy felt, but again I have since found this Ensolite stuff and I would use that if had was going to do it again. HTH
BTW it is the Ensolite that I am using on the door panels under the vinyl, it works great.

When choosing a padding, whether the Ensolite or another type, choose one that won't hold water.
Felt, in my opinion, would be bad because it could hold water from condensation for a very long time contributing to rust. Many foams actually repel water and that is a good foam to use under the other materials.

You want the lightest material possible for adhering to the roof. 1/4 inch foam from fabric shops and contact cement (spray on or brush on) are readily available and inexpensive. You can use the foam to cover the pillars too.
